Dose of medicinal mushrooms

Ditte Dot Com has received a significantly high dose of medicinal mushroom extract per day (= 3 grams and 825 mg) based on these active substances.

All in all per day she has received a total of 1366 mg per kg body weight (2250 mg Coriolus Versicolor powder (content) or capsules (content) – also called “Trametes Versicolor” or “Turkey Tail”) + 1075 mg Antrodia Camphorata powder (content) or capsules (content) + 500 mg Reishi powder (content) or capsules (content) = 3825 mg divided by her body weight of 2.8 kg).

This is divided over 4 times a day with 3-5 hour intervals in order to continuously boost her immune system.

Since I started to give her medicinal mushrooms, etc., I have kept records of how much I have given her, and when the dose has been increased, it has happened gradually over some days/a couple of weeks to make sure that she has tolerated it well.

In my decision of dose I have been inspired by e.g. this study in mice with prostate tumors showing a dose-/time-dependent effect.

Personally, I am of a belief that when dealing with cancer, there is a need for high dose and frequent intake to achieve full benefits of the mushrooms Link.

Description of method used.

Below is showed what Ditte in all has received per day (based on a body weight of 2.8 kg).

This is divided over 4 times a day with 3-5 hour intervals.

Dose throughout the day can also be seen in completed Excel sheet.

– Coriolus Versicolor: 2250 mg powder (contents) or capsules (contents).

– Antrodia Camphorata: 1075 mg powder (contents) or capsules (contents).

– Reishi: 500 mg powder (contents) or capsules (contents).

The mushroom extract is given between meals/treats – at least 30 minutes before a meal/treat, because the benefits of mushroom supplement are said to be greatest in this way. Read the biological explanation under Method, point 4.

Dorwest Milk Thistle, Milk Thistle (1 tablet per 5 kg which is divided over 2 times a day): ½ tablet.

Vitamin C, Euro Joe 100 % pure (1 g per 20 kg): Ditte gets 2 x 150 mg plus 2 x 30 mg. Read about the rationale for the combination of mushroom extract and vitamin C under Method, point 8.

– Kanavit Diafarm vitamin/mineral tablet (1 tablet per 5 kg): ½ tablet.

– Canosan, support normal joint function (1 tablet per 5 kg): ½ tablet.

– Glandex, support normal anal gland function (½ soft chew up to 7 kg): ½ soft chew.

– If needed Sanofor, gastrointestinal supplement. Gets it if she has too many refluxes. Has had no need for it since November 2019, but got it again for a few days, after she was under anesthesia to be control scanned July 2, 2020 (dose for small dogs: 1 teaspoon): 3 ml.

It seems to be of great importance that the extract of medicinal mushrooms has a sufficient content of active compounds (beta-glucans/triterpenes) and that they are prepared as hot-water/ethanolic extract in order to obtain the full health benefits of the mushrooms.

Please note: Intake of medicinal mushrooms should be done in consultation with a doctor/veterinarian, as medicinal mushrooms can affect the efficacy of medical drugs. For example, Reishi’s triterpenes have been reported to have anti-coagulant properties and supplements containing high levels should be used with caution, for example by those receiving blood-thinning medications. And serious kidney damages have been reported after long-term ingestion of Chaga in large amounts, due to its extremely high oxalate concentrations, as well as in connection with the intake of Chaga together with vitamin C Link.

The products for Ditte Dot Com:

The extract of Coriolus Versicolor powder (content) or capsules (content) – also called Trametes Versicolor or Turkey Tail – is an organic and concentrated hot-water extract containing >20 % beta-glucans together with other active compounds.

The extract of Antrodia Camphorata powder or capsules contains, among other ingredients, a minimum of 5 % triterpenes.

The organic extract of Reishi (also called Ganoderma Lucidum) powder or capsules contains 15 % beta-glucans and 4 % triterpenes and is thereby produced as concentrated hot-water (polysaccharide-rich) and ethanolic (triterpene-rich) extract.

Also see Method, point 4, Intake between meals.

I give Ditte the mushroom extract in powder form or as the contents of capsules (not the capsules themselves, even though these are of vegetable origin and no additives are used).

The mushroom extracts are distributed over 4 times a day at 3-5 hours intervals in order to give an ongoing effect of the mushrooms and thereby continuously boost her immune system.

See daily dose on completed Excel sheet.

Ditte gets only one meal per day (in the evening) consisting of clean meat (without fat): Turkey, beef or pork cooked or roasted with a little salt and occasionally some veal liver. To her meal is added grated carrot as well as blueberries and Goji berries, and I vary by adding green peas, blanched cauliflower and raw broccoli. This is all cut into tiny pieces and mixed into her food. Furthermore, she gets the content of a 1000 mg Omega 3 capsule drizzled over her meal.

The mushroom extracts are given outside food/treats – at least 30 minutes before food/treats, as the benefits of mushroom supplement are said to be greatest in this way. Read the biological explanation under Method, point 4.

Ditte gets the mushroom extract added approximately ½-1 ml of water equivalent to a couple of pinches of water so that it binds together.

The vitamin pill and Milk Thistle tablet I crush and mix with the mushroom extract.

Ditte receives vitamin C powder along with all 4 daily portions of mushroom extract. Read more under Method, point 8, including the rationale for the combination of mushroom extract and vitamin C.

She gets the portion of mushroom extract and vitamin C in a mouth syringe (see the video below).

I store the cans with mushroom extract in a dark and cool place (refrigerator).

For convenience, in the morning, I prepare all 4 portions of the day at once which takes about 20 minutes. Ditte gets the first portion immediately in the morning in a mouth syringe, and 2 of the other 3 portions are put in mouth syringes which are stored in the refrigerator. The evening portion, which is kept covered in the fridge during the day, is first mixed with (½-1 ml) water, just before she gets it at least 30 minutes before her dinner.

I use disposable mouth syringes in the size 10 ml which I use several times. Before using the mouth syringes, I put them in a bowl of boiling water for the purpose of disinfection. After a few minutes, I then rinse the mouth syringes in cold water before filling them with the mushroom extracts, etc.

Normal daily ration for Ditte Dot Com:

This is the normal daily ration of medicinal mushroom extracts, vitamin C, Milk Thistle and vitamin pill for Ditte Dot Com consisting of 4 portions per day – See exact amount of mg and the distribution during the day here.

See video clips below of mixing the morning portion and how she gets the portions.

(See video below).

In the example shown – Mixing the morning portion:

200 mg Antrodia Camphorata (increased to 225 mg)

+ 500 mg Coriolus (increased to 625 mg)

+ 150 mg vitamin C.

(Per July, 6, 2024: The mushroom extract is given without liver pâté).

Read about the rationale for combining most mushroom extracts with vitamin C under Method, point 8.

(See video below).

Read about the rationale for giving the mushroom extract alone (that is, not with food) under Method, point 4.

May 2016:
Due to elevated liver values, liver changes and enlarged liver I daily gave Ditte ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle) for rebuilding the liver as well as low-fat diet to avoid liver strain. At the time when the liver values were found normal, and there was no longer any changes in or enlarged liver (July 2017), I had begun to give her ½ tablet twice a week.

The beginning of February 2017 (January 30, 2017: Tumors in the abdomen, etc.):
½ capsule Coriolus extract (containing mushroom mycelium) 420-500 mg daily corresponding to the dose in the pilot study Link on dogs with 100 mg/kg. (Ditte’s weight: 2.5 kg). Ditte got the extract in low-fat liver pâté before dinner.

I was advised to supplement with a little amount of vitamin C alongside with the mushroom extract at least 30 minutes before dinner, as this possibly increases the body’s absorption and utilization of the active compounds of mushrooms.

The end of March 2018:
I increased the dose, as I began to give Ditte ½ capsule with extract of Maitake 500 mg the one morning and ½ capsule extract of Shiitake 450 mg the next morning. In the evening I gave her ½ capsule of the mushroom mixture PS-7 400 mg: Coriolus, Reishi, Maitake, Shiitake, Mesima and Snow Fungus (Coriolus due to tumors in the abdomen, Maitake due to enlarged spleen and Shiitake due to mammary gland lumps).

April 16, 2018 (Sterilization):
For the purpose of prophylaxis Ditte got ½ capsule of Coriolus 500 mg each day in a liver pâté ball together with her dinner.

June 20, 2019 (relapse June 19, 2019 in that a tumor had developed on the liver. Due to weight gain since the sterilization in April 2018 the dose was gradually increased, and the mushroom extract was again given at least 30 minutes before dinner): Reishi 400 mg, Maitake 500 mg and Coriolus 500 mg (a total of 1-2 capsules daily).

June 26, 2019:
Only Coriolus (started out with 1.5 capsule Coriolus 500 mg, which was gradually increased) and ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle).

June 28, 2019:
2 capsules Coriolus 500 mg and ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle).

*) Because Ditte during the last 3 weeks had begun to sleep heavily when she slept. I noticed this after I had started on Reishi myself and had started falling asleep quicker in the evening, as well as my sleep was greatly improved.

I subsequently became acquainted of this study Link, where rats were given extract of Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum) for 3 days, which significantly increased their total sleep time at a dose of 80 mg/kg (in comparison, Ditte received 258 mg/kg at this time). Already the day after the Reishi was reduced from 2 to 1 capsule, as well as the following days, Ditte became much more awake and alert during the day.

Furthermore, I became aware that it is recommended to pause for a month when Reishi has been consumed for 3 months (however, there are different opinions on this).

*) In the period from May 6, 2021 until May 28, 2021 Ditte had a little break with Reishi, as a pause from Reishi is recommended from some quarters, when it has been consumed for some time. The dose of Reishi was gradually decreased over a couple of days. Ditte resumed getting Reishi from May 29, 2021, where the dose was gradually increased over a couple of days from ½ to 1 capsule. During the mentioned period, when Ditte did not get (her usual 1 capsule) Reishi, she instead got 1 more capsule Coriolus.

January 14, 2023 (Due to the mammary gland tumor, which was removed with unclean margins on December 5, 2022, the dose was gradually increased over 1 month (from December 12, 2022) with a total of 450 mg of mushroom extract and 2 x 30 mg of vitamin C): 1000 mg Antrodia Camphorata, 2200 mg Coriolus, 450 mg Reishi, 2 x 30 mg vitamin C and 2 x 150 mg vitamin C (360 mg vitamin C in total). In addition, ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle) and ½ vitamin pill.

March 17, 2023 – July 10, 2023:
The dose of mushroom extract was gradually increased further to: 1075 mg Antrodia Camphorata, 2250 mg Coriolus, 500 mg Reishi. Vitamin C was unchanged: 2 x 30 mg + 2 x 150 mg. In addition, ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle) and ½ vitamin pill.

(From July 11, 2023 over a period of about 14 days Ditte’s total daily mushroom dose was increased with up to 825 mg: Antrodia Camphorata was increased with up to 275 mg for 14 days, Coriolus with up to 450 mg for 9 days and Reishi with up to 100 mg for 6 days in connection with a detected lump in the groin, which practically disappeared after 1 month. See case history Link. After this, Ditte was gradually given her normal daily dose again of 3825 mg).

August 8, 2023 – March 22, 2024:
1075 mg Antrodia Camphorata, 2250 mg Coriolus, 500 mg Reishi. Vitamin C: 2 x 30 mg + 2 x 150 mg. In addition, *) ½ Zentonil Advanced 100 mg (Milk Thistle)/½ Dorwest Milk Thistle tablet 100 mg (Milk Thistle) and ½ vitamin pill.

*) As of October 2, 2023: Regarding Milk Thistle tablets, I switched from Zentonil Advanced 100 mg to Dorwest Milk Thistle 100 mg (80 % silymarin), because the Zentonil Advanced tablets were no longer available. That is, instead of getting ½ Zentonil Advanced tablet 1 time a day, Ditte now got ½ Dorwest Milk Thistle tablet divided over 2 times a day.

(From March 23, 2024 over a period of about 5 weeks, Ditte’s total daily mushroom dose was – in order to give her a boost – increased with 800 mg (gradually over a few days and after the 5 weeks then tapered off): Antrodia Camphorata was increased with 300 mg, Coriolus with 350 mg and Reishi with 150 mg. See subsequent positive result of ultrasound scan May 30, 2024. After this, Ditte received a dose which was increased in total (compared to her then normal dose of 3825 mg) by 425 mg to a daily dose of 4250 mg in total. Vitamin C was unchanged: 2 x 30 mg + 2 x 150 mg. In addition, ½ Dorwest Milk Thistle tablet 100 mg (Milk Thistle) and ½ vitamin pill).

May 4, 2024 – July 4, 2024 (at the control scan on May 30, 2024, the remains of Ditte’s liver tumor, which had previously changed to a small fluid-filled cyst of 0.3 x 0.4 mm, were found to be completely gone): 1150 mg Antrodia Camphorata, 2450 mg Coriolus, 650 mg Reishi. Vitamin C: 2 x 30 mg + 2 x 150 mg. In addition, ½ Dorwest Milk Thistle tablet 100 mg (Milk Thistle) divided over 2 times a day and ½ vitamin pill. That is, in total a daily mushroom dose of 4250 mg.

(Per July 6, 2026: The mushroom extract is given without liver pâté).

July 5, 2024 – August 20, 2024:
The composition of medicinal mushrooms was changed for various reasons. Partly because of a theoretical possibility that long-term use of the same mushrooms might lead to the body getting used to the mushrooms and the consequent reduced immunostimulating effect and partly in the attempt to improve Ditte’s eye, as per July 4, 2024 was diagnosed with among other things: Senile corneal dystrophy and degeneration with embedment of crystals (calcium or cholesterol).

Instead of Antrodia Camphorata, Coriolus and Reishi, which Ditte has been getting for several years, from July 5, 2024 she started getting Lion’s Mane (which the plan is to continue with) and the day after Maitake, Shiitake, Cordyceps (ceased Cordyceps per August 12, 2024) and Chaga (Chaga was replaced by Oyster Mushroom on August 11, 2024).

Per July 26, 2024 Wood Ear (Auricularia auricula) was added. Per August 10, 2024 Ditte started getting Coriolus and Reishi again.

The dose of the mushrooms was gradually increased. The total daily dose of Lion’s Mane, Maitake, Shiitake, Wood Ear, Oyster Mushroom, Coriolus and Reishi reached: 5800 mg (equivalent to 2148 mg per kg body weight of 2.7 kg). Furthermore, continued vitamin C: 2 x 30 mg + 2 x 150 mg. In addition, ½ Dorwest Milk Thistle tablet 100 mg (Milk Thistle), which was distributed over 2 times per day, as well as ½ vitamin pill 1 time a day.

From August 21, 2024 and temporarily until further notice::
Ditte now receives a number of nutritional supplements from plants and vitamins and minerals (not yet apparent from this website) in an intensified attempt to improve her eye in relation to the aforementioned diagnosis: Senile corneal dystrophy and degeneration with embedding of crystals (calcium or cholesterol). In addition, Ditte daily receives medicinal mushrooms: Coriolus (3 x 700 mg + 1 x 300 mg), Maitake (3 x 500 mg), Shiitake (3 x 500 mg), Cordyceps (3 x 500 mg), Lion’s Mane (500 mg) and Reishi (500 mg). Distributed over 4 times a day and all portions with added vitamin C – now vitamin C in depot form in a dose of all in all 500 mg per day. The nutritional supplements include i.a. change to another product of Milk Thistle (1 capsule every 2 days) and to another product of multivitamin (1 tablet every 2 days).
